For me...

1) It's damned good music, played by some of the most practiced and creative musicians in the business.

2) By design, they played so it's different every time. Good as the Rolling Stones were/are, would one really debate the ten best live versions of Jumping Jack Flash in their history?

3) Because they concertized so much, they had an intuitive feel for each other, the results of which are a joy to hear.

4) Sketchy as Jerry's voice was, it had a heartfelt fragility that nicely complemented the warm emotionality of his lyrics.
